UNITEN POSTGRADUATE ACADEMIC INFORMATION

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Discussed program structures, the registration, course offerings, candidature, conversion, credit transfer, withdrawal and deferment, graduation, academic integrity.
  • PhD credit is 72, Masters credit is 40 
  • Students can only register one program in UNITEN and cannot register elsewhere
  • Research PhD and Masters: Full time student must be on campus at least 2 semesters per year, Part-time student need to be on campus at least 1 semester during study and 10 working days per semester
  • Masters (B) and (C): Must take at least 1 course of 3 credits in semester 1 and 2
  • Students need to register each semester otherwise university can terminate unless students apply for deferment
  • Late registration - the penalty is culculated daily upto maximum RM300
  • Credit transfer is possible for 50% of total credits
  • Important to read the procedure for withdrawal, deferment and termination 

THESIS GUIDELINES

  • Discussed on General requirement of a thesis, the format and  writing conventions
  • All thesis shall be in English
  • To submit thesis, (a) Notify (b) Submit for format checking (c) Submit
  • Final submission of approved thesis after viva is 3 copies (hardbound) and 1 copy on CD
  • Thesis must be 1 sided, A4, 80g, 150K words for PhD, 100K words for Masters (A), 70K words for Masters (B) and 50K words for Masters (C)
  • Compliance: Typeface, fontsize, margins, spacing, pagination, paragraphs, binding, spine, cover (PhD - black, Masters (A) - Maroon, Masters (B) - dark Blue
  • Format: Preliminary (title, declaration, abstract, ack, TOC, LOT, LOF, LOS, LOA, LOG, LOP, Text (all chapters), Ending (references, appendices, publications)

INFORMATION ON APPLICATION AND ENROLMENT

UNITEN is a private university that is 100% owned by Tenaga Nasional berhad, the Malaysian only Power Utility company. It offers Foundation, Degree, Masters and Phd programs focused on Engineering, Information Technology and Business Management. ​​It has two campuses; Putrajaya Campus and Muadzam Shah Campus​​.​

COLLEGE OF GRADUATE STUDIES

The Dean of the college is Prof. Ir. Dr. Norashidah Md. Din. The college collaborate with three other academic colleges;
  • College of Business Management and Accounting (COBA), 
  • College of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) and 
  • College of Engineering (COE) 
The programs offered are Masters and PhDs in the following 3 modes or structures:
  • Structure A: Full Research - PhD and Masters 
  • Structure B: 50% Research and 50% Coursework - for Masters only 
  • Structure C: 10% Research and 90% Coursework - for Masters only

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

PhD

  • Masters in the relevant domain, or
  • Masters in a related domain with 2 years experience in the domain (including at least 2 publications in the domain, or 
  • Bachelors in the domain with 1st class with honours or CGPA 3.67* and above.
    Note : For this qualification, candidates must register for Master Programme (Structure A), and apply for conversion to PhD in not earlier than six months and within one year of registration but subject to assessments and approval by Senate. For detail of conversion scheme, refer to COGS Academic Regulation.

Structure A & B - Masters

  • Bachelors in the relevant domain with 2nd class upper with honours or CGPA 2.75* and above, or 
  • Bachelors in the relevant domain with 2nd class lower with honours or CGPA 2.50*-2.74*, and 1 year experience in the domain and at least 1 publication the domain, or 2 years professional experience in the domain 
  • Bachelors in the relevant domain with CGPA below 2.50, and
    5 years experience in the domain 
  • Bachelors in a related domain with 2nd class upper with honours or CGPA 2.75* and above, and 1 year experience in the domain (including at least 1 publication in the domain)
Structure C (Business Program) - Masters (as offered)
  • Bachelors in the relevant or related domain with 2nd class lower with honours or CGPA 2.50* and above 
  • Applicants with minimum 2 years experience are preferred 
  • Applicants with CGPA below 2.50 with 5 years or professional experience
Structure C (Engineering Program) - Masters (as offered)
  • Bachelors in the relevant domain with 2nd class-lower with honours or CGPA 2.50* and above, or
  • Bachelors in the relevant domain with CGPA below 2.50 and 5 years experience in the domain
  • Bachelors in a related domain with 2nd class-lower with honours or CGPA 2.50* and above, and 1 year experience in the domain (including at least 1 publication in the domain)
English Language Requirement

Local and foreign students who hold degrees from institutions with non-English medium will be required to have proficiency in written and spoken English through the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL) or its equivalent  as follows:
  • with score of 6.0 (IELTS) or 600 (TOEFL) or its equivalent for computing or business studies
  • with score of 5.0 (IELTS) or 500 (TOEFL)  or its equivalent for engineering studies
This requirement is waived for:
  • Native of an English speaking country, or
  • Applicants who obtained a Bachelor or other relevant degree from an institution in and outside Malaysia whereby all courses are fully conducted  in English

FEES


Academic Fees

PhD and Masters (A)


The summary is that for PhD, the fee per semester is between RM4,500 to RM5,000 for locals and between RM5850 to RM6500 for International students and for Masters by research, the fee per semester RM3000 for locals and RM3900 for International students. The duration for Phd study is 2 - 7 years with minimum to graduate 4 semesters and the duration for Masters is 1-3 years for full-time study and 2 - 4 years for part-time study.

Masters (B)

The summary is that the total fee for local is RM26,000 and RM33,800 for international students. The duration of study is 1.5 - 3 years for full-time study and 2.5 - 4 years for part-time study.

Other Fees

  • Examination Fees: RM2500 for PhD and RM1250 for Masters (A)
  • University Fees paid upon registration is RM2010 for locals and RM7570 for International
  • International Student Visa Processing : between RM3588 to RM4252 for 1 -4 years program
